I’m off to Dragon Con 2006! Knowing my Daddy, you’ll see us at the con by laptop web cam, mobile PDA phone or wireless something-or-another. Doncha love the tech-talk? Hehehe. Hope you enjoy your long weekend (for those in the US) and don’t get into too much trouble. See ya Tuesday!

Not that the interview didn’t go well – it did. It’s just that I kinda expect to be treated a little better than random cattle and this place wasn’t used to providing any individual attention. When I got there (with 20 minutes to spare, thanks to Daddy helping me get out fo the house this morning and on to an early train) I was excited, nervous and happy about the new opportunities I could explore. By the time I left (over 5 hours later) I was tired, hot and grouchy. I scored in the 80th Percentile on the tests they gave me but I have no idea if that’s good or bad in thier view. The recruiter chick wanted me to take a 2nd shift part-time gig with a 6 month committment in midtown manhattan for less money than I made at my last job. I told her to keep looking. Plus she was all pissy when I told her I was taking a long weekend and going out of town over Labor Day. Not my problem.
In a few hours, I’ll be in a placement agency’s testing center to prove my knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, Quark, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Fun, right? Hardly! I hear the Word test will take about 4 hours. This is going to be a LONG day. At least I’ll see Kimi tonight and get some girl time in before the craziness of the DragonCon prep begins in earnest next week.
It’s no secret that I’m an animal lover. Actually, I’ve always been more comfortable with four-legged (domesticated) creatures than with most people. This is not usually news but the last few days have been chocked full of cats & dogs so much so that I haven’t been on cam much.
Starting Wednesday afternoon, I took on a 4 day dog-sitting job for a really sweet 2 year old Border Collie / Black Lab / Chow mix named Quinn. I brought him to my place a few times so he could play with Buster, Lady and Bettie, my brother’s dog, as well as stayed over at his house for a few hours at a time during the week. We went on long walks and car rides. He learned what a cat is and that generally they don’t like him very much.
Saturday afternoon, almost as soon as Quinn’s human came to get him yesterday, Daddy came over with Uncle Foo’s cat, Wretch, for me to cat-sit until we leave for DragonCon or Uncle Foo gets out of the hospital (whichever comes first). I’m not sure if Paine and Nermal remember that we used to live with Wretch a few years ago. If they do, they’re not all too thrilled about the reunion. Of course, they’re not as bitched as they could be so I suppose I’ll just thank the gods for small favors and move on.
So far, Wretch has been eating his new food, drinking the tap water and using the new litter box. My cats have not yet pissed on my head while I’m sleeping so I’d say ‘so far, so good’.
Tonight there is a members-only meeting at TES so everyone can meet the candidates running for the September election. I’ll be there because I’m running for the TES board this year. If you’re a TES member, come to 260 West 36th Street (3rd floor) in New York City tonight at 8pm.
Friday night, Kimi and I attended a pool party with my bio-family. Then we did some yoga and crashed out.
Yesterday, Kimi let me drag her to a Butterfly Festival (pictures coming later tonight) at the local nature preserve. I got my face painted with the rest of the 6 year olds. Then we drove to Daddy’s place and got ready to go into the city for Flagg’s workshop. Traffic made us a little late but we still got there okay and were able to participate in much of the workshop. Afterwards, Daddy drove Flagg, Kimi and me to a friend’s BBQ out on Long Island. I got to play with the doggies and drink a beer – not a bad way to spend a few hours
When they had had enough, we all piled back in the car, dropped off Flagg and headed to Daddy’s place for the night. I pretty much passed out as soon as we got there and slept very well thru the night.
Today, I drove home and played with my dogs a lot. I took them both for car rides (one at a time) and they both got to visit with new people at the store. Tonight, my bio-family is going to my brother’s house to wish him a happy (belated) birthday over some BBQ and ice-cream cake. Yummy!!
I know TES Fest was over a month ago, but I’m only now able to put my thoughts together. This entry discusses a number very personal subjects so you’ll have the click to continue reading… Continue reading ‘TES Fest '06 Scene Report (Lady Black Widow & Sir Stephen)’
Daddy David and I spent 7 hours on the nude beach yesterday and I can’t remember a more pleasant day. I’ll write more later (I have to run to a bio-family event tonight) but I wanted to say ‘Thanks again’ for a really great time. And to Soulhuntre, ‘Thanks again’ for being there last night. You mean more to me than I could ever say. < / gush >
I’m going to be the Adult Chaperone for four teenagers – two local girls and two Japanese exchange students. Thankfully, I’ll have my brothers along to help translate for the Japanese kids and to be a back-up Adult presense. Still, I’m a bit worried the American teens are going to try to ‘ditch’ me today … It’s what I would have done at thier age. Wish me luck!!
I’ll try to add to this list as I think of more items to bring. Luckily, I’ll be driving to camp so I don’t have to worry about carrying all this crap on a plane or lugging it around a train. If you notice I’m missing anything, please comment. Continue reading ‘Checklist for Camp’
